Data on real estate in Bosnia and Herzegovina is stored in two main systems: Land book and Cadaster.
The law on the land register was adopted in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2002. Since then the land legislation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has developed based on the German pattern.
The land register (land book) in Bosnia and Herzegovina is under the jurisdiction of special departments of the municipal courts (main courts – on the territory of the Republic of Serbia).
Land Book record consists of three sections:
- description of a real estate
- registration of rights
- encumbrances and restrictions

A record in the Land Book contains information about:
- rights (ownership, joint ownership etc.)
- mortgage
- liabilities
- lease and resales rights
- easements
- payment
- right of use
- other rights
The cadaster is maintained by special departments of municipalities.
Registers are public. Access to them is possible through relevant courts after payment of a duty.
As of today, the work is under way for unification and improvement of registers with the support of international financial institutions.
Extracts from the land register of Bosnia and Herzegovina may be used for:

- analysis of prices for real estate in different regions of Bosnia and Herzegovina

Apostilled extracts from Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bosnia and Herzegovina joined the Hague Convention on simplified legalization of documents on January 24, 1965, together with the rest of Yugoslavia.
Thus, documents issued in Bosnia and Herzegovina are subject to legalization based on the apostilling procedure, after certified translation such documents acquire full legal force on the territory of all other Hague Convention Member States.
As a rule, apostillation of extracts takes about two weeks.
